MDDA Launches Major Crackdown on Illegal Constructions and Plotting in Dehradun

Dehradun, November 21 — In one of its most extensive enforcement drives to date, the Mussoorie-Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) has initiated decisive action against the growing menace of illegal plotting and unauthorized constructions in and around the state capital. On Thursday, MDDA teams conducted operations at multiple locations, sealing illegal structures, demolishing unauthorized plotting sites, and issuing stern warnings to violators.

The crackdown, described as one of the largest in recent times, marks a strong administrative response to unchecked urban sprawl and unregulated development. Officials confirmed that similar intensified actions will continue in the coming days.

  • Canal Road, Vikasnagar:
The first major action was taken near Times World School, where landowners including Gurmeet Singh and Dr. Amit Rana were found developing approximately 8 bighas of land without approved maps. Unauthorized road construction and plot demarcation were underway. The MDDA team demolished temporary structures, sealed the area, and issued show-cause notices under relevant legal provisions. All activity has been halted pending formal approvals.

  • Dandapur–Hasanpur, Selakui:
In another significant operation, MDDA intervened in large-scale illegal plotting across nearly 100 bighas of land. Construction materials were removed, road development was stopped, and unauthorized demarcations were dismantled. Citing the potential risks to public safety and urban planning, the area has been designated as a “high-sensitivity zone” warranting strict enforcement.

  • AP Tower, Main Chakrata Road, Selakui:
MDDA sealed two illegally constructed shops in the designated parking area of a commercial building and shut down an unauthorized rooftop restaurant operating from a tin shed on the fourth floor. Officials emphasized that any tampering with designated parking spaces in commercial buildings would not be tolerated due to its impact on traffic and public safety.

  • Ranipokhri:
Demolition proceedings were initiated against unauthorized constructions by Manmohan Singh Rawat, who had deviated from the approved building plan. Following a prior show-cause notice, MDDA teams dismantled the illegal portions and halted further construction.

Vice Chairman Banshidhar Tiwari stated that the authority is committed to safeguarding public interest through strict enforcement. “Illegal constructions, map deviations, or unauthorized plotting will not be tolerated at any level. Planned and secure development of Dehradun remains our top priority,” he said, adding that sealing and demolition drives will continue wherever necessary.
