Baramati, Wednesday: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar was killed along with four others when a Bombardier Learjet 45 business jet crash-landed at Baramati airport on Wednesday morning.
According to an official occurrence report and early confirmations from senior state officials, the aircraft—operated by VSR and registered as VT-SSK—went down while attempting to land. All five occupants on board perished in the crash.
The victims included Pawar, his personal security officer, an attendant, the pilot-in-command, and the first officer.
Initial reports suggest the jet encountered difficulties during the landing phase, though the precise sequence of events remains unclear. Emergency responders and airport personnel reached the site shortly after impact, finding the aircraft destroyed and no signs of survival.
Aviation authorities have cordoned off the crash site and are expected to begin preliminary investigations. Recovery of the flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder will be crucial in determining the cause of the accident. Investigators will examine crew communication, aircraft systems, and prevailing conditions at the time of landing.
