MDDA Cracks Down on Illegal Plotting and Construction Across Dehradun Region

Dehradun, December 2:  The Mussoorie-Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) has intensified its crackdown on unauthorized plotting and construction activities across its jurisdiction, including Dehradun, Rishikesh, Vikasnagar, and Shimla Bypass. In a major demolition drive on Monday, the authority razed illegal road layouts and plots spread over 50 to 60 bighas of land near Chharba Inter College Road.

The action was taken against unauthorized plotting allegedly carried out by one Madhukar Joshi. The MDDA team, led by Junior Engineers Siddharth Semwal and Aman Pal, along with supervisors and adequate police force, dismantled the illegally carved roads and plots. Officials reiterated that any construction or plotting without approved maps or layout plans will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

In a separate operation, the MDDA sealed two illegal constructions in Balaji Enclave along Shimla Bypass Road. One structure, being developed by a person named Shaukeen, was sealed, while additional unauthorized buildings by Zulfie and others were also targeted. The sealing operations were carried out under the supervision of Assistant Engineer Vijay Rawat and Junior Engineer Jitendra Singh, following directives from Joint Secretary Gaurav Chatwal.

“No Compromise on Master Plan Compliance” — MDDA Vice Chairman

MDDA Vice Chairman Banshidhar Tiwari emphasized that the authority is committed to the planned development of Dehradun and will continue strict action against illegal colonizers and unapproved constructions. He urged citizens to obtain necessary approvals from MDDA before initiating any construction or land development to avoid future complications.

Tiwari also advised prospective buyers to verify the legal status of plots through the MDDA website or office and report any suspicious or unauthorized development to the authority.

“Sustainable Urban Growth is Our Priority” — MDDA Secretary

MDDA Secretary Mohan Singh Barnia stated that the authority is closely monitoring all construction activities in line with the city’s master plan. He warned that any violation—be it unauthorized buildings, illegal plotting, or non-compliant development—will invite strict action, including demolition and sealing. He added that MDDA teams are conducting daily field inspections and will continue to act promptly against any rule violations.
