​​​​​​​MDDA Unveils Vajpayee Statue at Mussoorie’s Atal Udyan


Mussoorie, December 21, 2025: The Mussoorie–Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) unveiled a grand statue of Bharat Ratna and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee at Mussoorie’s Atal Udyan in a dignified ceremony.

The ₹23 lakh installation was inaugurated by Rajya Sabha MP and BJP Uttarakhand President Mahendra Bhatt, with Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Ganesh Joshi as chief guest. The event was presided over by Mussoorie Municipal Chairperson Meera Saklani. The program began with the national anthem, lamp lighting, and floral tributes to Vajpayee.

Speakers recalled Vajpayee’s historic role in the creation of Uttarakhand, his visionary leadership, and his lifelong commitment to democracy and inclusive development. Mahendra Bhatt described him as a statesman who gave Indian politics a new direction through dialogue and sensitivity, while Ganesh Joshi emphasized his decisive contribution to Uttarakhand’s statehood.

Crafted with high-quality materials, the statue reflects Vajpayee’s simplicity, strength, and thoughtfulness. MDDA also beautified Atal Udyan, transforming it into a cultural and tourist attraction. Officials noted that Vajpayee was not only a leader but also a poet and thinker whose words continue to inspire youth.

Bansidhar Tiwari, Vice Chairman of the Mussoorie–Dehradun Development Authority, said that the revered Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s life was a symbol of patriotism, good governance, and democratic values. The installation of his statue at Mussoorie’s Atal Udyan marks a historic moment for the region. He emphasized that the Authority’s mission is not limited to infrastructure development but also includes preserving cultural and ideological heritage. This statue, he noted, will inspire future generations with Vajpayee’s ideals and further strengthen Mussoorie’s identity.
