Tehri Lake Festival Set to Elevate Tourism in Uttarakhand from March 6–9


Dehradun: The upcoming Tehri Lake Festival, scheduled to be held from March 6 to 9, is expected to give a significant boost to tourism in Tehri district, offering visitors a combination of adventure sports, cultural showcases, and spiritual experiences.Nestled around the vast Tehri Lake—formed after the submergence of the old Tehri town—the festival promises a diverse range of activities. Visitors can enjoy lake tours, rafting on the rapid Ganga currents, treks to the enigmatic Khait mountain, and visits to the historic Raghunath Temple in Devprayag, along with yoga sessions at the sacred confluence.

Organized jointly by the Tehri District Administration and the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board, the “Himalayan O₂ – Tehri Lake Festival” is proposed to be inaugurated by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on March 6. District Magistrate Neetika Khandelwal stated that the festival aims to establish Tehri as a major tourist destination while generating employment opportunities for local communities.The four-day event will feature trekking, mountain biking, rock climbing, and rafting, in addition to cultural programs, a master chef competition, fashion shows promoting local traditions, and photography contests.

Participants in competitions such as Master Chef, Photography, Painting, Social Media Reel, Group Fashion Show, Mr. and Miss Tehri, Rafting, and Rap Singing will have the opportunity to win attractive cash prizes. The first-place winner in each category will receive ₹1 lakh, followed by ₹50,000 for second place and ₹25,000 for third. Ten consolation prizes of ₹5,000 each will also be awarded.

The inaugural ceremony will take place at Koti Colony, which will also host the food festival, Mr. and Miss Tehri, Master Chef competition, and a theatrical presentation on the life of legendary folk hero Madhho Singh Bhandari.
The popular Pandavaas band will perform on March 6, while acclaimed singer–composer Amit Trivedi is scheduled to take the stage on March 7.

  • That–Khait Mountain trek on March 8 in Pratapnagar
  • Baasal Tal trek in Ghansali
  • Rafting from Brahmpuri to Kharasrot in Narendra Nagar on March 8
  • MTB ride from Suwakholi to Devalsari in the Dhanaulti region

Participants will also visit Devprayag, where they will have the opportunity to offer prayers at the revered Raghunath Temple, witness the evening Ganga Aarti at the confluence, and engage in yoga sessions by the river. A guided tour of the ancient Vedic observatory (Vedshala) is also planned.
