Uttarakhand’s Daughters Shine in UPSC
Lead reporting
Dehradun:
Young aspirants from Uttarakhand—particularly women—have delivered an impressive performance in the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination 2025, the results of which were announced earlier this month. Several candidates from the state have secured notable ranks, highlighting the growing academic excellence and determination among the region’s youth.
Among the successful candidates, Shambhavi Tiwari, who has roots in Haldwani and studied at Pantnagar University, emerged as one of the state’s highest-ranked candidates with All India Rank (AIR) 46. A gold medalist in electrical engineering, she significantly improved her rank from 445 in the previous attempt, demonstrating persistence and strategic preparation.
Another prominent achiever is Priya Singh Chauhan, who secured AIR 45, bringing pride to the state and inspiring aspirants across Uttarakhand. Her success came after several attempts and years of dedicated preparation while working in government service.
In addition to these women achievers, other candidates from Uttarakhand also secured respectable ranks in the prestigious examination. Meenal Negi from Tehri achieved AIR 66, while Anuj Pant from Champawat secured AIR 69, both placing among the top hundred in the country.
Several male candidates from the state also performed strongly. Aryan Singh from Haridwar secured AIR 104, while Aditya Pathak from Pithoragarh achieved AIR 189. Another successful candidate, Tushar Chauhan from Haridwar, obtained AIR 216 in his third attempt after preparing alongside his professional responsibilities.
Further down the merit list, Ashutosh Nautiyal from Uttarkashi and Rishabh Nautiyal from the Purola region secured AIR 398 and AIR 552 respectively, adding to the state’s growing list of successful civil services candidates.
The UPSC Civil Services Examination remains one of India’s most competitive exams, with lakhs of aspirants appearing every year and only a few hundred candidates recommended for appointment to services such as the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and Indian Foreign Service (IFS). In the 2025 examination, 958 candidates were recommended for various services, marking the culmination of a rigorous multi-stage selection process that includes preliminary, main, and interview rounds.
The success of women candidates from Uttarakhand has been widely celebrated across the state, as it reflects not only individual determination but also the increasing participation of women in prestigious national examinations. Educators and civil service mentors say that the achievements of these young women will inspire many more girls from the hill state to pursue careers in public service.
With both male and female candidates from Uttarakhand securing strong positions, the state continues to strengthen its reputation as a growing hub of talented civil service aspirants.
