PRSI Seminar Highlights Role of Public Relations in Democracy

Dehradun: Emphasizing the critical role of communication in strengthening democratic values, the Dehradun chapter of the Public Relations Society of India organized a thought-provoking seminar on the occasion of National Public Relations Day. The event, held at the HUDCO Auditorium on Rajpur Road, focused on the theme “The Importance of Public Relations in Democracy.”

Addressing the gathering, Chapter Chairman and Deputy Director Ravi Bijarniya underscored that public relations serves as a vital bridge between the government and citizens. “Dialogue is the foundation of trust,” he said, adding that meaningful communication fosters transparency, builds confidence, and ultimately helps translate public aspirations into reality. He stressed that in a democratic framework, effective engagement with citizens is essential for responsive governance.

Regional Head of HUDCO Sanjay Bhargava broadened the perspective by stating that public relations is not confined to governance alone but plays a crucial role at the family and societal levels as well. Highlighting the growing influence of digital and mass communication platforms, he called for responsible and ethical communication practices to maintain credibility and harmony in society.

Welcoming the dignitaries and participants, Chapter Secretary Anil Sati outlined the objectives and activities of PRSI, emphasizing its role in promoting professional excellence in the field of public relations. Member Manita Hari drew attention to emerging challenges such as fake news and deepfakes, urging stakeholders to remain vigilant and promote authentic information dissemination.

Speakers at the seminar collectively highlighted the need for positive, credible, and impactful public relations, describing it as a powerful instrument not only at the institutional level but also in individual efforts toward nation-building and social service.

The session was moderated by senior journalist Sanjeev Kandwal, ensuring an engaging and insightful discussion. Several members, including Rakesh Dobhal, Priyank Vashishtha, Sushil Kumar, Manoj Sati, Vaibhav Goyal, Vimal Dabral, and others, also shared their views.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks, leaving participants with a renewed understanding of the importance of communication in fostering trust and strengthening democratic institutions.
