Dehradun: Uttarakhand's Health Minister Subodh Uniyal on Friday said the proposed Tehri Medical College would mark a significant milestone in strengthening the state's healthcare infrastructure, expanding access to quality medical services, and boosting medical education in the region.

Chairing a high-level meeting at the Secretariat, the Health Minister held detailed discussions with senior officials on key aspects of the proposed medical college, including land selection and the overall development plan for the institution.

Addressing the meeting, Uniyal said the medical college would be established at a strategically selected location to ensure that the maximum number of people benefit from its services. He emphasized that the institution would significantly improve healthcare accessibility in Tehri and adjoining districts while reinforcing the state's public health infrastructure.

"The establishment of Tehri Medical College will not only enhance healthcare facilities but also strengthen the overall health system of the region. It will prove immensely beneficial for the people of Tehri as well as neighboring areas," the minister said.

Highlighting the broader impact of the project, Uniyal noted that the medical college would improve healthcare delivery in remote and hilly regions while generating new employment and self-employment opportunities for local youth. He added that the institution would be developed under a comprehensive master plan and equipped with modern medical and academic infrastructure.

The Health Minister informed officials that the land selection process for the project has been completed and reiterated that the proposed medical college would emerge as a landmark initiative in Uttarakhand's healthcare and medical education sectors, providing a major boost to both quality healthcare services and professional medical training.

During the meeting, Health Secretary Vinay Shankar Pandey directed the Tehri District Magistrate to submit the proposal related to the selected land to the state government at the earliest to expedite the implementation process.

Additional Secretary Rohit Meena was also present during the meeting.
