Uttarakhand Braces for Rain, Snowfall as Weather Department Issues Yellow Alert

Dehradun, October 14: Weather conditions in Uttarakhand are set to change once again, with the Meteorological Centre issuing a Yellow Alert for 12 districts of the state on October 15. Light to moderate rainfall is expected across most districts, except Udham Singh Nagar and Champawat. The department has also warned of possible lightning strikes at isolated locations.

According to the forecast, several parts of the state are likely to receive rainfall between October 14 and 16. Rain is expected in some plain areas, including Dehradun, Haridwar, and Nainital, on October 14 and 15. The impact of rainfall is expected to be more pronounced in the Garhwal region on October 15, while parts of the Kumaon region could witness heavy showers on October 16.

Director of the Meteorological Centre, Dr. C.S. Tomar, said snowfall is likely in areas situated above 3,800 meters on October 14. On October 15 and 16, snowfall may occur in regions located above 3,500 meters. The combined effect of rain and snowfall is expected to bring down temperatures, leading to a noticeable increase in cold conditions across the state.

Weather Department Urges Caution

The weather department has advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of rain and to exercise caution while traveling in hilly areas. Pilgrims undertaking the Char Dham Yatra have also been urged to check the latest weather updates before starting their journey.

The advisory comes as several districts recently experienced rainfall that caused damage to agricultural crops. Authorities have urged both residents and farmers to remain alert and take necessary precautions in view of the anticipated weather changes.
