Dehradun, December 4, 2025 — The Mussoorie-Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) has ramped up its demolition drive against unauthorized plotting and illegal constructions across its jurisdiction, reaffirming its commitment to ensuring planned and lawful urban development in the state capital and surrounding areas.
In a bid to curb unregulated urban sprawl and safeguard public interest, MDDA teams are conducting daily inspections and taking swift action against violators. The authority has made it clear that individuals and colonizers flouting land use regulations will face strict penalties, including sealing and demolition of unauthorized structures.
Major Action in Vikasnagar and Shimla Bypass Areas
On Thursday, MDDA officials carried out a demolition operation in the Horawala Road area of Chharba, Dehradun, where approximately 4–5 bighas of land were being illegally plotted by one Madan Singh Negi. The operation was executed under the supervision of Assistant Engineers Siddharth Semwal and Aman Pal, along with field supervisors and local police personnel.
20 Bigha Illegal Plotting Razed in Sherpur, Selakui
A day earlier, on Wednesday, MDDA took decisive action in Sherpur, Selakui, where unauthorized plotting over nearly 20 bighas of land was being carried out by Naveen Gupta and others. The demolition was conducted peacefully, with Assistant Engineer Nitesh Rana and supervisory staff present on-site to oversee the operation.
MDDA Vice Chairman: “No Tolerance for Unauthorized Development”
Speaking on the ongoing campaign, MDDA Vice Chairman Banshidhar Tiwari emphasized the authority’s zero-tolerance policy toward illegal development. “Our goal is to ensure that Dehradun and its surrounding areas grow in a planned and sustainable manner. Unauthorized plotting and construction not only distort the city’s landscape but also create long-term challenges for residents, including lack of basic infrastructure like roads, electricity, sewerage, and water supply,” he said.
Tiwari added that all field teams have been instructed to act immediately—regardless of the scale of the violation—and to carry out sealing and demolition operations with full transparency.
MDDA Secretary: “Strict Monitoring and On-Ground Action Underway”
MDDA Secretary Mohan Singh Barnia reiterated the authority’s commitment to vigilant enforcement. “Our teams are actively monitoring the ground situation. Wherever illegal plotting or construction is detected, we are taking immediate and firm action. Our objective is to ensure safe, lawful, and organized development across the region,” he stated.
The MDDA’s sustained campaign is being seen as a significant step toward curbing unregulated urbanization and protecting the long-term interests of Dehradun’s residents.
