MDDA Cracks Down on Illegal Construction - Multi‑Storey Building Sealed in Rishikesh

Dehradun: The Mussoorie–Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) has intensified its crackdown on illegal construction and unauthorized plotting across its jurisdiction. In a series of major actions, the authority carried out demolition drives and sealed multiple structures found in violation of building and land‑use regulations. Officials reiterated that any activity contrary to the Master Plan will not be tolerated and that the enforcement campaign will continue.

10 Bigha Illegal Plotting Demolished in Selakui

An MDDA team demolished illegal plotting spread across nearly 10 bigha of land in Sherpur, located behind Shriram Centennial School near the new Selakui highway. Landowner Praveen Vij was allegedly dividing the land into plots without an approved layout plan or mandatory permissions. Following complaints and an on‑site inspection, the authority deployed machinery to raze construction work linked to the unauthorized plotting. Officials stated that a notice had been issued earlier, but the violations continued.

In the same area, an illegal commercial structure being constructed by Savage was sealed for violation of regulations. The building was reportedly coming up without map approval or land‑use conversion permissions.
The sealing was carried out in the presence of Assistant Engineer Shashank Saxena, Junior Engineer Nitesh Rana, Supervisor Lalit, and local police personnel. MDDA officials said unauthorized commercial activities under the garb of development will not be permitted.

Multi‑Storey Illegal Building Sealed in Rishikesh

A major action was also taken in Haripur Kalan, Rishikesh, where MDDA sealed an illegally constructed multi‑storey building near Adinath Akhada. The structure, being developed by Ashok Mittal, was found to be under construction without an approved building plan. Considering the serious violation of safety norms, the authority immediately sealed the premises. Assistant Engineer Abhishek Bhardwaj, Junior Engineer Manish Dimri, supervisors, and police personnel were present during the operation.

Zero‑Tolerance Policy: MDDA Vice‑Chairman : Banshidhar Tiwari said the authority is strictly enforcing a zero‑tolerance policy toward illegal construction and unauthorized plotting. He noted that despite issuance of notices in several cases, compliance was not followed, leaving the authority with no option but to take stringent action. Tiwari urged the public to verify the legal status of land or buildings before purchasing, emphasizing that planned urban development and citizen safety remain top priorities.
