Dehradun, March 6: The School of Media and Communication Studies at Doon University hosted a special lecture on Indian Knowledge Tradition and Communication Media today. The lecture was delivered by Professor Amitabh Srivastava, Dean of the Department of Culture and Media Studies at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Rajasthan.
Addressing the students, Prof. Srivastava emphasized the importance of the concept of “self” and encouraged young learners to recognize their Indian identity and set goals to establish it on the global stage. He highlighted that understanding one’s cultural roots is essential for shaping meaningful communication in the modern world.

The program began with a formal welcome by the Head of the Department, Dr. Rajesh Kumar, who presented a memento to Prof. Srivastava. In his welcome address, Dr. Kumar spoke about the principle of Sahridayata described in the Natyashastra, highlighting its significance in communication and emotional connection. He also stressed the need to integrate theories of communication embedded in the Indian knowledge tradition at the global level.
During his lecture, Prof. Srivastava discussed various dimensions of the Indian knowledge tradition and examined how communication mediums have evolved over time, transforming societal perspectives. He noted that Indian traditions are the roots of cultural identity and that it is essential for future generations to remain connected with them.
Referring to renowned storyteller Joseph Campbell, he explained that Campbell’s ideas influenced by Indian philosophy continue to shape narratives in global cinema even today.
The event was attended by Dr. Harsh Dobhal, assistant professors Dr. Karuna Sharma, Juhi Prasad, Abshar Abbasi, Dr. Vandana Nautiyal, Sargam Mehra, along with students of the department.
