New Delhi: Mohini Singh, a Bachelor of Science (Honours) Chemistry student at Dayalbagh Educational Institute, was honoured with the prestigious Jal Shakti Hackathon 2025 Award at the World Water Day Conclave held at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre (DAIC), New Delhi, on Sunday.
The award, carrying a cash prize of ₹1 lakh, was presented by Union Minister of Jal Shakti, Shri C.R. Patil, in recognition of her innovative project focused on tackling water pollution.

Singh’s project, titled “Development of an Adsorbent-Based Technique for Removal of Microplastics from Water” (Project ID: project-4569), addresses the growing concern of microplastic contamination in water bodies. The initiative is part of riverbank development efforts undertaken by Dayalbagh Educational Institute along the Yamuna River at Poiya Ghat (Baikunthdham).

The Ministry has invited Singh to submit a Proof of Concept, with possibilities for further research and development funding and institutional support.
The project was carried out under the guidance of Dr. Pushpa Sahni from the Department of Chemistry.
The award ceremony was attended by officials, researchers, and students, marking a significant step toward promoting innovative solutions for sustainable water management in the country.
