Rudraprayag: Authorities have registered another FIR against a social media user for allegedly spreading misleading and factually incorrect information about arrangements during the Kedarnath Yatra, as the administration intensifies its crackdown on fake narratives.
The case was lodged at Sonprayag police station after officials flagged a video circulated via an Instagram account that claimed negligence by the administration in assisting an elderly pilgrim. The video alleged that despite deteriorating health, the pilgrim was denied timely help and that VIP protocols were being prioritised over the needs of general devotees.
Officials, however, clarified that the claims were false and misleading. According to the administration, the incident in question occurred on April 22, when a pilgrim from Gujarat fell ill during the yatra. The individual was immediately shifted to the Kedarnath Primary Health Centre, where doctors declared him dead. Subsequently, authorities completed all formalities and arranged for the body to be airlifted to Guptkashi.
The administration stated that the video distorted facts and attempted to create panic and damage the government’s image. Legal action has been initiated against the individual concerned under relevant provisions.
Officials said that continuous monitoring of social media platforms is underway to identify and act against such content. Several suspicious posts are being examined, and strict action will be taken against those found spreading misinformation.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed authorities to adopt a zero-tolerance approach toward rumours and misinformation related to the Char Dham Yatra. He emphasized that any attempt to mislead the public or undermine the sanctity of the pilgrimage will invite strict legal consequences.
Authorities also noted that some users have begun deleting posts following the registration of FIRs, indicating the impact of the enforcement drive.
Reiterating its commitment to ensuring a safe and well-managed pilgrimage, the administration urged the public to rely only on official information and avoid sharing unverified content.
