MDDA’s 113th Board Meeting Puts Strong Focus on Public Welfare, Green Cover and Infrastructure
Dehradun is set to witness a new phase of planned and sustainable urban development following a series of major decisions taken at the 113th Board Meeting of the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA). The meeting, chaired by Garhwal Divisional Commissioner and MDDA Chairman Vinay Shankar Pandey, approved a substantial budget of nearly ₹968 crore for the financial year 2026–27, aimed at giving the city a modern, eco-friendly and citizen-centric identity.
Alongside the budget approval, several key proposals related to residential, commercial and tourism development were also cleared, raising expectations of accelerated growth and improved quality of life for residents. The meeting began with Vice Chairman Banshidhar Tiwari welcoming the chairperson and board members. This was followed by the presentation of the compliance report of the 112th Board Meeting, which was reviewed and formally approved. After detailed deliberations, a total of 48 proposals were discussed and cleared in accordance with established norms.
Big Push to Urban Development
The ₹968 crore budget approved for 2026–27 is being seen as a major step towards comprehensive urban development. Priority areas include infrastructure strengthening, city beautification, environmental conservation and enhancement of public amenities. Through this allocation, MDDA aims not only to reinforce Dehradun’s urban framework but also to move steadily towards developing the city as a smart, sustainable and environmentally responsible urban centre.
Green Signal to Public-Centric Projects
Several proposals directly linked to public welfare received approval during the meeting. These included plans for eco-resorts, hotels, commercial constructions and residential layouts. The decisions are expected to boost tourism, generate employment opportunities and energize the city’s economic ecosystem.
In another significant move, the Building Construction and Development Bye-laws, 2011 (as amended) were formally adopted in line with the state government’s notification. This step is expected to ensure greater transparency, streamlined processes and better planning discipline in construction activities across the city.
Major Step Towards a Greener Dehradun
With rising temperatures and growing environmental stress becoming major concerns, maintaining ecological balance has now emerged as a top priority. The MDDA issued directions to implement plantation drives, water conservation initiatives and the development of new parks on a mission mode. Special emphasis will be placed on increasing green cover across the city, protecting water bodies and upgrading public spaces.
These initiatives aim not only to mitigate the impact of rising temperatures but also to preserve Dehradun’s natural beauty while providing citizens with a cleaner, healthier and more livable environment.
Focus on Greenery and Beautification
To enhance the city’s aesthetic appeal and environmental sustainability, the board approved several beautification measures. These include plantation on road dividers, installation of plant pots, and arrangements for soil, manure and water supply. The purchase of essential equipment was also cleared, including a tractor, an EICHER 333 vehicle with a pressure pump, and a hydraulic trolley.
Additionally, large-scale tree plantation, water conservation measures and park development projects will be fast-tracked to counter increasing urban heat and environmental degradation.
Laying a Strong Foundation for the Future
The decisions taken at the 113th Board Meeting are expected to play a defining role in shaping Dehradun’s future. While the approved budget and development plans aim to modernize the city, the strong emphasis on greenery and environmental protection seeks to ensure that Dehradun remains balanced, sustainable and livable.
Statements from Key Officials
Vinay Shankar Pandey, Chairman, MDDA and Garhwal Divisional Commissioner, said that the authority’s vision extends beyond mere construction. “Our goal is to develop Dehradun as a balanced, green and well-organized city. Through the approved budget and projects, we will strengthen infrastructure and ensure better facilities for the general public,” he said. He also emphasized that all projects would be implemented in a time-bound and transparent manner so that citizens receive direct benefits.
Vice Chairman Banshidhar Tiwari stated that MDDA continues to prioritize public welfare. He noted that the approved proposals would not only drive physical development but also create new avenues for employment and investment. “Our focus is on balanced growth, where environmental conservation goes hand in hand with modern urban amenities,” he said, expressing confidence that Dehradun would emerge as a model city in the near future.
