Dehradun: The Uttarakhand government has unveiled an ambitious plan to enhance tourism infrastructure and conserve key lake destinations in Nainital district, with projects worth over Rs 46 crore proposed for the beautification and redevelopment of Bhimtal, Naukuchiatal and Kamaltal.
Acting on the directions of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Secretary, Housing and State Property Department, Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar, conducted a comprehensive inspection of ongoing and proposed development projects in the district on Saturday and reviewed their progress.
Rs 25.67 Crore Redevelopment Plan for Bhimtal
A Detailed Project Report (DPR) worth approximately Rs 25.67 crore has been prepared for the redevelopment and beautification of Bhimtal Lake. The project includes the renovation of major parks, development of a boating dock near Deendayal Park, construction of a 4,210-metre cobblestone pedestrian pathway, landscaping, improved parking facilities, solar street lighting and installation of modern street furniture.
Dr. Kumar directed officials to ensure that all works are completed in accordance with approved standards and within stipulated timelines.

Tourism Boost for Naukuchiatal
A separate Rs 20.97 crore project has been proposed for the beautification of Naukuchiatal Lake. Planned facilities include a boating stand, waiting area and ticket counter, floating jetty, enhanced parking facilities, a 2,089-metre pedestrian pathway, gazebos, viewpoints, landscaping and solar lighting.
Officials were instructed to maintain quality standards and expedite implementation of the project.
Kamaltal to Emerge as New Tourist Attraction
The Kamaltal area is also set for a major makeover with plans for an open shopping plaza, a 50-metre pedestrian bridge, a 100-metre walkway, improved parking, solar lighting and landscaping. The government aims to develop the site as a prominent tourism destination in the region.

Parking Infrastructure to Ease Traffic Pressure
During the inspection, Dr. Kumar also reviewed the progress of a multi-level parking and commercial complex under construction at Lakdi Tal in Bhawali. The project is nearly 96 per cent complete and will provide parking space for 124 vehicles along with around 40 commercial shops.
In Nainital city, a Rs 42.77 crore Sarovar Parking Project has been approved at Mallital, which will accommodate 605 four-wheelers and 202 two-wheelers. Additionally, a Rs 30.43 crore automated parking facility has been proposed near Nainital Club, creating parking space for 202 cars and 96 two-wheelers.

Focus on Tourism, Conservation and Connectivity
Reviewing all projects, Dr. Kumar directed officials to accelerate pending works and initiate projects that are yet to commence. He also instructed departments to explore changes in executing agencies where required to avoid delays.
The Secretary further inspected the Ashok Parking site on the Nainital-Haldwani route and directed officials to utilize previously sanctioned funds for early construction to improve traffic management.

Officials said the projects represent a significant step toward strengthening tourism infrastructure, conserving Uttarakhand’s iconic lakes, and improving urban mobility. Once completed, the initiatives are expected to enhance visitor experiences while providing better amenities for local residents and supporting the region’s tourism-driven economy.
