CUH Marks World Environment Day and Celebrates Academic Excellence through AAYAM-2026

Mahendragarh, June 5: The Central University of Haryana (CUH) witnessed a day of environmental awareness, academic recognition, and cultural celebrations as it observed World Environment Day 2026 and hosted the annual function AAYAM-2026 of the Department of Physics and Astrophysics.

The Department of Environmental Studies, in collaboration with the Paryavaran Sanrakshan Shodh Peeth (PSSP), CUH, and the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB), celebrated World Environment Day under the theme “Climate Action.” The programme began with a plantation drive under the nationwide campaign “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” at Ashima Chatterji Girls Hostel and Kalpana Chawla Girls Hostel.

Leading the plantation activity, Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof. Pawan K. Sharma and Registrar Prof. Suneel Kumar encouraged students to actively contribute to environmental conservation and sustainability initiatives. Welcoming the participants, Prof. Anita Singh, Head of the Department of Environmental Studies, highlighted the importance of tree plantation in mitigating climate change. Prof. Mona Sharma, Chair Professor, PSSP, joined faculty members, staff, and students in the plantation drive.

The formal session included the felicitation of environmental experts from the Haryana State Pollution Control Board and industry. Expert lectures by Shri Vijay Chaudhary, Regional Officer, HSPCB, Mr. Dipesh Kalher, Assistant Environmental Engineer, HSPCB, and Mr. Munish Kumar, Founder Director of EHS Guru Sustainable Solutions Pvt. Ltd., focused on environmental governance, pollution control, sustainability practices, ESG compliance, and career opportunities in the environmental sector.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members, research scholars, students, and officials of the Haryana State Pollution Control Board, Narnaul. The programme concluded with the National Anthem, reaffirming the collective commitment towards environmental protection and climate action.

On the same day, the Department of Physics and Astrophysics celebrated its annual function AAYAM-2026 with great enthusiasm. The event was graced by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar as Chief Guest, while Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof. Pawan Kumar and Registrar Prof. Suneel Kumar attended as Guests of Honour.

In his address, Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar congratulated the department on its achievements and encouraged students to actively engage in academic, cultural, sports, and co-curricular activities. He emphasized that holistic personality development requires a balanced focus on academics and extracurricular pursuits.

The programme commenced with Ganesh Vandana, followed by the welcome of guests and presentation of tokens of appreciation. Prof. Ankush Vij, Head of the Department, presented the annual report showcasing the department’s accomplishments in academics, research, cultural activities, and extracurricular achievements.

The cultural segment featured a poetry recitation, a vibrant Rajasthani folk dance, a colourful ramp walk by final-year students, and an engaging dance performance by faculty members. Academic toppers, sports achievers, and student office bearers were felicitated for their outstanding contributions.

Organized by Prof. Sunita Srivastava and Dr. Meenu Thakur, the event concluded on a joyful note, reflecting the department’s commitment to academic excellence, cultural diversity, and the holistic development of students.

The twin celebrations highlighted CUH’s dedication to fostering environmental responsibility, academic excellence, cultural vibrancy, and all-round personality development among its students.
