Action in Dehradun and Haldwani follows failure to produce required recognition documents 

Dehradun: The Uttarakhand government has continued its action against madrasas allegedly operating without the required recognition and failing to comply with prescribed educational standards, with fresh enforcement measures reported in Dehradun and Haldwani.

Secretary, Minority Affairs, Dr Parag Madhukar Dhakate, said action was taken against three madrasas in Dehradun. Madrasa Jamia-tus-Salam Al-Islamia in Azad Colony was sealed, while the managements of Madrasa Dar-e-Arqam in Azad Colony, Majra, and Madrasa Darul Uloom Rahimia submitted written undertakings stating that they had stopped operations.

According to the department, 17 madrasas have so far been sealed across the state, while the managements of three others have formally informed authorities that they have discontinued operations. The department therefore puts the total number of madrasas whose operations have been halted at 20.

Two madrasas sealed in Haldwani

Action was also taken in Haldwani, Nainital district, where two unrecognised madrasas were sealed.

These included Madrasa Jamia Nooria Barkate Amina, located on Shani Bazaar Road in Gaujajali North, and another unrecognised madrasa operating in Indira Nagar, Banbhulpura.

Haldwani City Magistrate A.B. Vajpayee said the managements concerned had been asked to produce the documents required in connection with recognition. The sealing action was subsequently carried out in accordance with the applicable procedure after the required documents were not submitted.

Government stresses compliance with recognition norms

The latest action comes amid the state government's stated policy of ensuring that educational institutions operate in accordance with prescribed regulations and recognition requirements.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed that no educational institution should be allowed to operate without the required recognition and in violation of applicable rules.

The government has also said that under the new system being implemented in the state, minority educational institutions will be required to comply with prescribed academic standards while ensuring access to modern and quality education.

Dhami has maintained that the future of children and the quality of education cannot be compromised and that institutions found violating applicable rules will face action according to law.

The government's position, as outlined in the statement, is focused on ensuring that educational institutions—irrespective of their management or category—meet the prescribed recognition and academic requirements.

The administration's action in Dehradun and Haldwani is part of this continuing enforcement process. Further action is expected against institutions found operating without the required recognition or failing to meet the prescribed educational standards.
