Uttarakhand Registers Historic ₹5,310 Crore Revenue Surplus: CAG Report

Dehradun, 23 September: In a major fiscal milestone, Uttarakhand has recorded a revenue surplus of ₹5,310 crore for the financial year 2022–23, according to the latest report released by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India. This achievement marks a significant turnaround in the state’s financial trajectory and places Uttarakhand among the select group of states that posted a surplus during the period.

The CAG report highlights a remarkable improvement in the state’s economic management, crediting prudent fiscal discipline and transparent governance for the surplus. Once considered part of the “BIMARU” category—states lagging in development—Uttarakhand has now emerged as a model of financial resilience and reform.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami welcomed the report’s findings, calling the surplus “a strong step towards economic self-reliance and a prosperous future.” He attributed the achievement to the state’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and disciplined financial planning, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a “Developed India.”

“This is not just a statistical accomplishment,” CM Dhami said. “It reflects our resolve to build a self-reliant Uttarakhand through sound economic policies and good governance.”

The state government reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining fiscal discipline while accelerating development initiatives. Officials stated that the surplus would enable greater investment in infrastructure, public welfare, and employment generation, further strengthening Uttarakhand’s economic foundation.
