Dehradun 2 November 2025: In a major push to improve healthcare delivery across Uttarakhand, the state government has initiated the recruitment process for 287 medical officer posts under the Provincial Medical and Health Services cadre. This move, approved by Health and Medical Education Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat, reflects the government’s commitment to expanding medical infrastructure and addressing the shortage of doctors, especially in remote hill regions.
Of the 287 vacancies, 231 will be filled through direct recruitment, while 56 are backlog posts. The requisition for these positions has already been sent to the Uttarakhand Medical Services Selection Board (UKMSSB), which will soon release the official recruitment advertisement. The board has been instructed to clearly mention the age criteria in the notification: as of July 1 of the recruitment year, candidates must be between 21 and 42 years of age.
The recruitment drive is part of a broader strategy to ensure that hospitals across the state are equipped not only with modern facilities but also with adequate medical staff. According to departmental officials, the selection board will begin the recruitment process shortly, and efforts are being made to expedite appointments to underserved areas.
This follows a successful deployment earlier this year, when 220 doctors were appointed to remote medical units across the state under the backlog quota. These appointments have significantly improved healthcare access in far-flung regions, where medical services were previously limited.
Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat stated, “The state government is fully committed to strengthening healthcare services in hill areas and addressing the shortage of doctors. The recruitment of 287 medical officers will be a crucial step in that direction.”
The government’s proactive approach includes not only filling vacant posts but also upgrading hospital infrastructure, introducing digital health systems, and improving emergency response capabilities. The current recruitment is expected to enhance service delivery in primary health centers, community health centers, and district hospitals.
This initiative aligns with Uttarakhand’s broader health mission, which aims to ensure equitable access to quality healthcare for all citizens, regardless of geography. With the silver jubilee of statehood being celebrated this month, the recruitment drive also symbolizes the government’s resolve to fulfill long-standing public health goals.
