Fuel Supply Stable, Govt Steps Up Measures Amid West Asia Tensions

New Delhi: Amid evolving geopolitical tensions in West Asia, the Government of India has assured citizens of stable fuel supply and normal operations across key sectors, while intensifying monitoring and preparedness measures nationwide.

At a high-level media briefing at the National Media Centre, officials from the Ministries of Petroleum, Shipping, and External Affairs outlined the current situation, emphasizing that petrol, diesel, LPG, PNG, and CNG supplies remain uninterrupted. Citizens have been advised to avoid panic buying and rely only on official information.

A major highlight has been the steady distribution of 5 kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinders, aimed particularly at migrant workers. Since April 1, over 17.83 lakh cylinders have been sold, with more than 81,000 cylinders distributed in a single day. The government has also doubled the supply of these cylinders to ensure accessibility.

In parallel, the push toward cleaner fuel continues, with 5.27 lakh PNG connections activated since March, and infrastructure ready for an additional 2.60 lakh connections, taking the total to 7.87 lakh connections. Nearly 5.97 lakh new consumers have registered for PNG services, reflecting a shift toward alternative energy sources.

Retail fuel outlets and port operations across the country are functioning normally, with no reports of congestion or supply disruption. Authorities confirmed that all Indian seafarers in the Gulf region are safe, and no incidents involving Indian-flagged vessels have been reported in the past 24 hours.

The government has also strengthened enforcement against hoarding and black marketing, conducting over 2,300 raids nationwide, leading to penalties and suspension of several LPG distributorships.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of External Affairs continues to closely monitor developments in the Gulf and West Asia, prioritizing the safety of Indian nationals. Special control rooms and 24×7 helplines remain operational, while Indian missions are actively assisting citizens. Since February 28, around 12.38 lakh passengers have returned to India from the region as flight operations gradually improve.

Officials reiterated that despite global uncertainties, India’s energy security and supply chains remain resilient, backed by coordinated efforts between central and state agencies.
